No current Zambian football player is fit to wear jersey 11-Daniel Kaoma.
It’s a common norm in footballing countries to honoring legends and there legacy. For example, prior to 1998 world cup, Argentina had retired jersey number 10 in honor of Diego Maradona who had retired from international football after the USA 1994 world cup. It took a very talented player by the name ORTEGA who showed immense skills for the Argentina Football Association to bring back jersey number 10 and give him.
Zambian football Football historian Daniel Kaoma has called on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to retire jersey 11 worn by Kalusha Bwalya saying no current player is fit to wear jersey 11. However Jersey 11 is an iconic Jersey number in the Zambian football. Recall, Christopher Katongo wore the same jersey in 2012 and led the nation to their first AFCON win.
Kalusha he’s not only a Zambian football icon but also an African football legend. The Great Kalu won African footballer of the year in 1988 which is the highest football honour to a player in Africa. Kalusha has been voted once as no. 10th best player globally.
He wore it with pride at the France 98′ world cup alongside teammates Gabriel batistuta, Diego Simeone, Sebastian Veron, Hernan Crespo and others. Maradona made this jersey number icon the same with our own Kalusha bwalya on jersey number 11. So retiring it will be in his honor
