Musician General Kanene Hospitalized After Campaign Rally Attack in Mwembeshi

MWEMBESHI, ZAMBIA – Renowned Zambian musician Clifford Dimba, widely known as General Kanene, is currently recovering in hospital following an alleged assault during a campaign rally in Mwembeshi East, Nampeya Ward, yesterday. The incident occurred while the artist was performing in support of parliamentary candidate Ibrahim Kabwe Mwamba, who is contesting the Mwembeshi East Constituency seat in the forthcoming 2026 General Election.
According to a statement released by his management, General Kanene was reportedly attacked by individuals identified as suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres. The management further alleges that the assailants were armed with pangas and golf sticks during the altercation.
During the reported attack, General Kanene sustained a head injury, purportedly from being struck with a panga. He was promptly transported to Chawama Level I Hospital, where he is presently receiving medical attention. His management has also moved to dispel rumors circulating on social media regarding the musician’s demise, unequivocally stating that such reports are false. They confirmed that General Kanene is alive and is recuperating from his injuries at the hospital.
