Police say the case dockets have been submitted to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal.
“The dockets relating to the matter have since been submitted to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal,” Mwanza said.
A specific court date has not yet been set. According to police, the 17 suspects are expected to appear before court once the required prosecutorial procedures have been completed.
More Details Still Awaited
While police have confirmed the charges, further details regarding the circumstances that led to the arrests have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Authorities have also not yet provided details about the alleged offensive weapons referred to in the charges.
The development provides further clarity following growing concern from members of Zambia’s entertainment and creative industries, who have been calling for more information regarding the continued detention of Chester, Felix Ndangeni Inshila, IDC Light Comedy and the other suspects.
As the matter moves toward the next stage of the legal process, the 17 suspects will have an opportunity to appear before a competent court, where the allegations can be addressed through due process.
The accused remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty by a court of law.
