Wait, What? Peter Okoye Says He’s Changing His Birthday Date

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, better known as Mr P and one half of the legendary duo P-Square, has sparked widespread reactions on social media after announcing that he is changing his birthday date.

In a brief post shared Monday afternoon on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the singer wrote, “I am officially changing my birthday date,” offering no further explanation at the time of this report.

“I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.

“My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding.”

Peter Okoye rose to fame alongside his twin brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), as part of P-Square, the award-winning group that dominated African pop music throughout the 2000s and early 2010s. Their hit songs and energetic performances earned them a loyal fanbase across the continent, but internal disagreements eventually led to their split.

The first major cracks in the group became public around 2015, largely due to management disputes involving their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who handled their business affairs. Issues over royalties, creative control, and family interference deepened the rift, and by 2017, the group officially disbanded, with both brothers pursuing solo careers as Mr P and Rudeboy respectively.

After years of separation and highly publicized family feuds, the twins reconciled in an emotional reunion in November 2021, thrilling fans across Africa and beyond. Now, with his unexpected announcement about changing his birth date, Mr P has once again become the center of online speculation, leaving many curious about the motive behind the decision.
