We are of age now, Zambians should own big mines – Kang’ombe

Kamfinsa Member of Parliament, Christopher Kang’ombe, has called for policy reforms in the mining sector that will prioritize Zambian ownership of newly established mines once government concludes the ongoing geological survey mapping of the country’s mineral resources.

Mr. Kang’ombe said all new mining ventures should be owned by Zambians, with the option of partnering with foreign investors as equity partners.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Kang’ombe noted that Zambians have long raised concerns over the dominance of foreign ownership in the mining sector.

“This is an issue the nation expected President Hakainde Hichilema to address in parliament last week but that wasn’t the case” said Mr. Kang’ombe.

He emphasized that without Zambian ownership, the country will continue to miss out on fully benefiting from its vast mineral resources.
