Yo Maps Reveals Control Over 75 Artists’ Royalties With Boomplay

Zambian music star Yo Maps has made serious allegations regarding royalty payments on the streaming platform Boomplay, positioning himself at the center of a major industry controversy.

In an interview with The Mijedo Corner, the artist claimed he was instrumental in bringing Boomplay to Zambia and, as a result, initially had administrative control over artist portals. Yo Maps stated that he used this authority to withhold royalty payments from artists who had, in his view, insulted or disrespected him.

These claims emerge amidst ongoing complaints from Zambian artists about unpaid royalties. Notably, rapper Jemax has publicly stated that his album “Boogyman,” which has accrued over 50 million streams, has generated no income for him.

The revelation has ignited a debate about power dynamics, transparency, and ethical practices within the Zambian music industry, raising questions for both Yo Maps and Boomplay to address.
